From Vincent Secor to the families of Troop 337 …
My scouting family,
There’s a saying among Scoutmasters: Your best day as Scoutmaster is your first day, your second-best is your final day as Scoutmaster.
For the last 1,295 days I have given everything I have to being the best Scoutmaster I can be for this unit and for the boys. Everyday has been a good day and every interaction with our youth has taught and changed me in some way.
Over the last year, time has been very difficult for me to manage and it gets harder by the day. A growing business and the need for me to continue to support my wife Julie’s healing need to come first, and that has left me with less and less time to manage and nurture the troop in a fashion that benefits the boys.
My leadership and role as the Scoutmaster has never been about the title but to provide an amazing experience for our youth.
I have been in a large capacity a full time leader for the last 8 years through Cubscouts and into Boy Scouts. My wonderful wife has been supportive and she deserves mine and our thanks for the time she has stepped up and allowed me the time away from the family that I could lead our youth.
I have asked Mike V and Janice K to allow me to step back from my role as Scoutmaster allowing me more time to put my focus where it is needed. Mike V is going to take the role of Scoutmaster for the interim while thoughtful consideration goes into finding to a new Scoutmaster.
I am not leaving the troop. I am here to stay for the foreseeable future as an Assistant Scoutmaster. I will remain as the EPIC leader and will not surrender the title of Mr. Daring quite yet. I have also been asked to plan and lead the EPIC trip next year and help in other areas as needed.
This has been a hard week and a very hard email to write to you all. I am proud of our troop and soooo very grateful to hold so many wonderful memories and look forward to so many more from a different seat of leadership.
Yours in scouting forever.
Vince
