Month of June 2024:
The month of June was very busy for the troop. At the very beginning we had the fitness test for the Scouts to sign off on their Tenderfoot requirement. This was very helpful and a good use of a troop meeting as we were able to help the newer Scouts start on their rank advancement. Everybody was able to pass the tests and begin the fitness portion of the Tenderfoot rank. On the 4th of June, some of the older scouts headed off to St. Thomas where they participated in the Sea Base high adventure where they were able to live on a sailboat for a week traveling around St. Thomas. The trip started off really well, and we were able to learn how to sail and go snorkeling. At around the third day Xander got sick and slept most of the day feeling terrible. Around the middle of the fourth day, the rest of the crew began to feel sick and that afternoon was full of vomiting and constant trips to the bathroom. We later docked at the pier on the 5th night so we could have air conditioning and smooth waters for sleeping. Overall, the trip was a great experience even with the sickness. We were able to see lots of sea life and lots of cool scenery along the way. A big highlight of the trip was the Annaberg Plantation where we were able to hike and explore the ruins of a once operating sugar mill in the middle of an island. There, we were able to learn a lot about the history of the plantation as well as the history of St. Thomas and St. John
