This month the troop had a camping trip at Pickle Gulch. The first Tuesday we had a PLC meeting where we were able to plan the upcoming campout and the meeting afterwards. The night afterwards was designated towards meal planning for the camp out over the weekend. New Scouts were able to learn how the process works and all the meals worked out really well. Over the camp out the first years were able to get a bunch of requirements signed off for Scout rank as well as other requirements for future ranks like Tenderfoot. There was also a lot of time for football and exploring the camp grounds. The PLC was also able to plan a search and rescue scenario for the Scouts. We had to look for the victim and assess their injuries. This exercise was fun and also got some more requirements signed off for the younger Scouts. We were also able to participate on a hike where we learned about different types of rocks from Mrs. Fried which was very interesting. At the end of the campout, Joe and Wallace put together a very fun campfire where everybody participated in skits, songs, and jokes. Overall, the campout was very successful and a good learning experience for all the Scouts. On the 28th of May, the younger Scouts were able to start their physical fitness requirement for the Tenderfoot rank. They were able to complete the mile run, push-ups and sit ups all in a good amount of time. The older Scouts were able to play football on the field and the younger Scouts joined once they had finished their fitness requirements. Also on the 28th we had a Seabase meeting where we covered the packing list and what to expect at the airport. Below are some images from the search and rescue. We had people hide and choose an injury, then once we found them we used our first aid knowledge to help address the situation.
