T337 Historian Report – October 2024

1 – Troop Meeting: Rat Trap; Color Guard Training

At this week’s Troop meeting we had a discussion with former ASM, Mr. Al Cassano, about what’s required to form a formal Troop 337 Color Guard and worked with some scout volunteers on Color Guard drills. Sometime in the near future, we will have a sign up for scouts that are interested in participating in the Color Guard. Scouts also had fun with Rat Trap Fishing. It was a fun game where we had rat traps in the middle of the gym, and we had to use logs and lashings to get them stuck to our ropes and fish them out.

5 – Kohl Street Cleanup

As part of the City’s Adopt-A-Street program, Troop 337 has adopted Kohl Street from Miramonte Blvd. up to the intersection of Main Street & 136th Avenue. Scouts met at the southwest corner of Kohl Street and Miramonte Boulevard, on October 5 at 8:50 a.m. and worked on the very first clean up.

8 – Troop Meeting

At this week’s Troop meeting, we had AOL Scout Visits, a safety jeopardy game, a cold weather camping review, and a scout from Germany who traded patches with us. The German scout also brought some German chocolate for us all to enjoy!

12 – Wood badge breakfast

Our troop hosted a breakfast for all past and current adult participants in the wood badge leadership training program. Ms. Stratton did an amazing job organizing the morning and getting all of the food donated. This meant that all of the funds we collected that morning went straight towed the troop. Some the Colorado Council VIP’s attended. Start time was 7:30 but we got there at around and 6:30 AM to assist with event set up.

End time was around 11:30.

It was our troop’s time to shine in front of many of our scout leaders throughout the Greater Colorado Council. We helped with setting up tables and chairs in the gym, collecting and arranging donated food, serving food, keeping the room tidy and collecting finished plates during the event, and putting away tables and chairs at the end of the event. We also provided a Color Guard to perform the Flag Ceremony.

22 – Troop Meeting:

This week we rearranged patrols and planned the October 29th Activity Night. We also planned for the November Thankful campout.

27 – Trick or Trunk at BUMC

Troop 337 helped by staffing the pumpkin launcher and managing the fire pits at the s’mores station. This was a public facing service project, so we wore our Class A uniforms. In addition to the duties above, our first shift helped set up the area, and our second shift helped with tear down and lots of clean up. This is a popular event.  It was very fun, but all the people that had to man the fires went home smelling like smoke!

29 – Patrol Activity Night

This is when all of the patrols get together with their members to just have fun! Each patrol chooses what they all want to do. For example, the Flying Tortoises and the Jaguars patrols went to Main Event. They went bowling, played some laser tag, and had fun in the arcade.  Other patrols went to Skyzone, played capture the flag, or attended a bonfire at Marshal Lake.
